Activity Points
Activity Points are FitSum's unified measure of physical activity. They are based on MET-minutes — a scientifically validated unit that accounts for both the duration and intensity of an activity. Higher-intensity activities earn more points per minute; consistency matters more than intensity.
You earn Activity Points from:
- Workouts logged in FitSum (automatically)
- Activities imported from Apple Health or Health Connect (walking, cycling, swimming, etc.)
- Manually logged activities
Your weekly target is the total Points you aim to earn across the week. Your daily breakdown shows how Points are distributed day by day.
The ring on the Progress → Activity tab fills as you accumulate Points during the week. It resets at the start of each week.
Activity Points streak
A streak counts how many consecutive days you have met your daily Activity Points target. The streak counter displays beside your points total.
- The streak resets to zero if you miss your daily target
- Rest days do not break the streak if you've set a rest day in your schedule
- Points imported from your health platform count toward the daily target
Steps
FitSum tracks daily step count via your phone's built-in pedometer or via Apple Health / Health Connect (whichever source is available and authorised).
Your daily step target is set in the Activity Points settings screen (open the settings icon on the Progress → Activity tab). The bar fills as you accumulate steps during the day.
Steps also have a streak counter — the number of consecutive days you've hit your step target. Tap the streak badge for your streak history.
Steps do not contribute to Activity Points directly — they are tracked separately.
Weekly fitness goals
The Goals tab on the Progress screen shows how you're tracking against your weekly fitness-area goals — your training allocation across fitness areas, with each area's target and progress shown on a radial chart, and your individual fitness targets listed below it.
These goals are seeded from your archetype and training preferences during onboarding. Adjust them from the Goal Check-in (open from the Workout tab via Training Settings), or fine-tune individual fitness targets on the Goals tab itself.
Build Targets
Build Targets let you set how many days per week to train each exercise type, and separately how often to train each major muscle group.
Open it from the settings icon on the Build card on the Progress → Activity tab.
Note: only two exercise types are tracked here — Strength and Functional. Cardio is tracked through Activity Points (MET-minutes), not as a Build Target, and flexibility isn't a separate exercise-type target.
Strength — each muscle group
A slider sets how many times per week to train each major muscle group (legs, back, chest, shoulders, arms, core). The recommended minimum is 2+ per week. This is a per-muscle-group frequency, not a weekly total of strength sessions.
Functional
A days-per-week slider sets how often to do a functional session. A session counts as functional when it includes both balance and strength exercises in the same session (the WHO 2020 multicomponent definition). Setting it to 0 (Off) disables tracking.
These targets feed the recommendation engine and the Build Target dots on the widget.
Readiness per modality
How much recent load each exercise type has received, and how recovered you are to train it again, is shown on the Build card in the Progress → Activity tab (not on this settings screen). Readiness is a training-load calculation rather than a measure of how you physically feel — you might feel fine but have high residual load, or feel tired but be well-recovered by the numbers. Use it as a guide, not a strict rule.
Functional capacity
Functional capacity is your ability to perform everyday movements with ease — combining balance and strength. Building it reduces fall risk and supports healthy ageing.
In FitSum it's tracked as a single weekly frequency target: how many days per week you do a session that includes both balance and strength exercises in the same session (the WHO 2020 multicomponent definition). Set it on the Build Targets screen (see 7.5) — the default is 3+ days per week for adults 65+, and it's optional for younger users.
There is no separate "functional capacity" percentage or aggregate score — it's just this one weekly target.
Calorie goal
Your daily calorie burn estimate is tracked separately from Activity Points. See Calories for how calorie estimates are calculated.
The calorie ring on the widget (if enabled) shows today's estimated burn against your goal. Your goal is set in the Activity Points settings screen (open the settings icon on the Progress → Activity tab).
