What are Targets?
Targets let you set specific performance goals for individual exercises or body metrics. When you have a target set, FitSum shows your progress toward it over time and surfaces it in coaching context.
Targets are separate from the coaching engine's auto-progression. A target is something you set consciously ("I want to deadlift 100 kg") rather than a prescription the app produces.
Exercise targets (Partial premium)
Set a goal weight, reps, distance, or duration for any exercise.
Free tier: Create up to 2 user-defined targets. Premium: Unlimited targets.
Creating an exercise target
- Go to Exercise Targets — open the Targets screen from the Goal Check-in (Workout tab), or use Load from Goals on the Progress chart.
- Tap + New target.
- Search for or select an exercise.
- Enter your target value (weight, reps, duration, or distance depending on the exercise's tracking type).
- Optionally set a target date.
Once saved, a progress bar appears below the target showing how your current best compares to the goal. The bar updates automatically as you train.
Target presets (Premium)
FitSum includes preset targets for common strength milestones (e.g. bodyweight bench press, 1.5× bodyweight squat). Access them from the preset picker when creating a new target. These are reference points — they are not programmatically different from targets you create yourself.
Category targets
Category targets set weekly volume goals by muscle group or exercise category (e.g. "train legs at least 2 times per week").
Open Category Targets from the Targets screen (see 9.2 Exercise targets).
Free tier: View your archetype's default category targets. Premium: Edit category allocations to customise the distribution.
Changes to category targets affect how recommendations are scored — sessions targeting under-trained categories rank higher.
Body measurement targets
You can set a goal for any body measurement: weight, waist circumference, body fat percentage (if you track it), or any measurement type in your profile.
Go to Body Measurement Targets from the Targets screen (see 9.2 Exercise targets).
Enter a target value and optionally a target date. The progress bar updates as you log new measurement readings.
Archetype default targets
When you chose your goal archetype during onboarding, FitSum set default category allocations and activity targets to match your goal.
These defaults are visible in your targets screens. On a free account, you see them but cannot change the category allocations — upgrade to Premium to customise.
Changing your archetype (via the Goal Check-in, open from the Workout tab through Training Settings) resets targets to the new archetype's defaults. Your history is not affected, only the forward-looking targets.
