Profile & Preferences

Profile overview
Your profile stores the personal information FitSum uses for coaching and calorie estimates: date of birth, biological sex, height, body weight, and your fitness goal (archetype).
Go to Profile (the third tab) to access all settings.
Updating personal data
Date of birth
Used for age-based adjustments to calorie estimates and coaching context. Set once and it updates automatically as you age.
Biological sex
Used in calorie estimation and, if cycle tracking is enabled, in wellness-aware coaching. Select the option that best reflects your physiology. If neither option fits your situation, you can leave it unset — the coaching engine falls back to sex-neutral estimates.
Height
Used for BMI calculations and calorie estimates. Update if your height changes (e.g. after medical advice, or when setting up on behalf of someone else).
Body weight
Update regularly for accurate calorie estimates. You can log weight from the Body tab on the Progress screen.
Goal (archetype)
To change your fitness goal, use the Goal Check-in (open from the Workout tab via Training Settings). See Getting Started for a description of each archetype.
Changing your archetype resets default targets and training preferences to the new archetype's defaults. Your history is not affected.
Training preferences
Go to Training Settings (open from the Workout tab) to adjust how FitSum plans and coaches your training.
Training style
How the coaching engine balances weight and rep targets.
| Option | Focus |
|---|---|
| General | Balanced — works for most people |
| Strength | Lower reps, higher intensity |
| Hypertrophy | Higher reps, moderate intensity |
Session duration
Your typical workout length: under 45 minutes, 45–75 minutes, or over 75 minutes. This affects how many exercises and sets the engine suggests per session.
Days per week
How many strength sessions you plan per week. This feeds into ACWR calculations (training load versus recovery) and determines expected workout frequency.
External activity level
How physically active you are outside of structured workouts: sedentary, lightly active, moderately active, or very active. This affects calorie estimates and how the coaching engine interprets your baseline.
FitSum infers this automatically if you have health integration connected. You can override the inferred value here.
Deload preference (Premium)
- Automatic — The engine decides when to deload based on training load
- Scheduled — Deloads at a fixed interval you specify (e.g. every 4 weeks)
- Manual — You initiate deloads yourself
Cardio preferences
See Endurance Coaching for cardio-specific preferences.
Units & measurements
Go to Profile → Preferences → Units & Measurements.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Body weight units | kg / st-lb (stone & pounds) |
| Distance units | km / miles |
| Pace format | /km or /mile |
Changing units converts all historical data to the new unit immediately. No data is lost.
Equipment units
A separate setting for how equipment weights are displayed (bar weights, plates, etc.). This can differ from body weight units — for example, you might prefer to track body weight in kg but see equipment in lbs if your gym uses lb plates.
Workout defaults
Go to Profile → Preferences → Workout Defaults.
- Rest timer — Toggle whether the rest timer appears automatically between sets. Rest duration is set per exercise (on each exercise's detail page), not as a global default here.
- Equipment strategy / round to equipment weights — How suggested weights account for your enabled equipment and snap to available plate increments.
- Auto-complete sets — Mark sets complete automatically instead of tapping each one.
If the app detects you've been in a workout for an unusually long time without logging anything, it may prompt you to end the session automatically.
Equipment settings
Go to the Plan tab → Equipment to toggle the equipment available to you. This affects:
- Which exercises appear in recommendations
- Your inferred gym tier (shown in your profile)
- Exercise filtering on the Plan tab
For custom equipment, see Exercises, Equipment & Routines.
Notification settings
Go to your device settings → FitSum → Notifications to manage notification permissions. Inside FitSum, notification types (movement break reminders, coaching nudges, rest timer sounds) are configured in their respective settings screens:
- Movement break notifications: from the Movement Breaks card (Progress → Activity tab) → Notifications
- Rest timer sound: Profile → Preferences → Workout Defaults
- Coaching card notifications: Profile → Preferences → Coaching notifications
Cycle tracking
If you have a menstrual cycle, FitSum can use phase information to add nuance to coaching context. This is optional and does not affect the core training engine.
Go to Training Settings → Cycle Tracking (open Training Settings from the Workout tab) to enable it and enter your typical cycle length and last period start date. FitSum uses this to indicate your approximate current phase in coaching summaries. It does not share or export this data.
