Health Integration

Overview

FitSum connects with your phone's health platform to read activity data you've recorded elsewhere and, optionally, to write completed workouts back to the health store.

  • iOS — Apple Health (HealthKit)
  • Android — Health Connect

No health data is ever shared with third parties. All transfers are between FitSum and your device's local health platform.

Connecting Apple Health or Health Connect

Go to Profile → Health Sync.

  1. Tap Connect (or Grant permissions if you've connected before but some permissions are missing).
  2. Your device will show a permissions sheet listing each data type. Grant the permissions you want.
  3. The settings screen updates to show which data types are authorised.

You can return to this screen at any time to check the status or disconnect.

Permissions you can grant

PermissionWhat FitSum uses it for
StepsDaily step count on the Activity tab
Active energy / caloriesCalorie estimates
WorkoutsReading workouts logged by other apps (e.g. your watch); writing FitSum workouts to the health store
Heart ratePost-workout HR enrichment; VO2max estimation
Body measurementsSyncing weight and measurement readings

You don't have to grant all permissions. FitSum only uses data for the types you authorise.

Syncing historical data

FitSum can import past workouts logged by other apps via the health platform (e.g. runs recorded by your watch) so they appear in your FitSum history.

The import modal lets you choose how far back to go. A progress indicator shows the sync status. Large imports may take a few minutes.

You can import historical workouts at any time — tap Import Workouts Now under Profile → Health Sync → Sync Settings (Import Workouts must be switched on).

Body measurement sync

If your health platform has body measurements (weight, BMI, etc.), you can sync them into FitSum.

Tap Sync measurements on the Health Integration screen. The app reads authorised measurement types and adds any entries not already in your FitSum records.

This is a one-way pull — FitSum doesn't write measurements back to your health platform unless you explicitly connect in that direction.

Exporting workouts to your health platform

FitSum can write completed workouts to Apple Health or Health Connect. This lets your watch and other fitness apps see workout data from FitSum (e.g. for closing activity rings).

Switch on Export Workouts under Profile → Health Sync → Sync Settings, then tap Export Workouts Now to push completed workouts to Apple Health or Health Connect. (On iOS you can also grant write access from the Health app's permissions sheet.)

Post-workout heart rate enrichment

After you complete a workout, FitSum checks your health platform for a matching heart rate recording that covers the session time. If one is found, it is imported and displayed on the workout detail screen — even if you weren't wearing a Bluetooth monitor during the session.

This happens automatically in the background, usually within a minute or two of workout completion. If HR data doesn't appear, check that:

  • Heart rate permission is granted in your health platform
  • Your watch or phone was recording HR during the workout
  • Sufficient time has passed for the data to sync from your watch to the health store

Activity detection from health platform

Workouts you import from other apps (via Import Workouts) count toward your daily Activity Points and weekly goals, just like sessions logged in FitSum.

On Android there's an additional Activity Detection card with a Sync Steps toggle. When on, FitSum reads steps from Health Connect so they count toward your step totals and Activity Points — useful if you walk or run tracked by your watch but log strength in FitSum, so both contribute to your activity totals.

This is recommended if you use a watch regularly.

Disconnecting

Tap Disconnect on the Health Integration screen. This revokes FitSum's access to your health platform. Historical data already imported into FitSum remains in your account — disconnecting does not delete it.

To re-connect, tap Connect again and go through the permissions sheet.

Troubleshooting

Steps aren't appearing in FitSum

  • Open your device's health app (Apple Health or Health Connect) and confirm steps data is present
  • Check that FitSum has steps read permission (go to the health app's app permissions and verify FitSum appears with read access)
  • Pull to refresh on the Progress → Activity tab

Workout HR data isn't appearing after completion

  • Wait 3–5 minutes — the sync is asynchronous
  • Confirm your wearable has synced its session data to the health platform (open the health app and check the workout appears there)
  • Check that FitSum has heart rate read permission

I get duplicate workouts

If you're recording workouts in both FitSum and a wearable app, and both import to your health platform, you may see duplicates in Apple Health. Go to your health platform settings and choose one source as the primary for workouts.
